Getting back into running... AGAIN... | Start date: 03/20/26

I REFUSE to pay more than 90 dollars for a pair of running shoes. $90 is actually a little too high and to be honest; my max should really be like, $75? That sounds more like me :)

-----------
I started running when I was in middle school. I made the school volleyball team and running for exercise was introduced to me. In high school I had an athletics coach suggested I join the cross country team BUT my home life was too hectic and I just didn’t care enough to join any extra curricular or sports teams.

I still ran though. It was my time alone, my therapy. Once motherhood became my new life, I wasn’t able to run anymore. I had other obligations, my body couldn’t adjust, and it felt like a chore. I hated doing something I used to love so much when it feels forced. I just stopped.

Eventually when my mental went straight in the shitter and I was no longer breastfeeding (thank fuck!) I picked running back up and omg, it’s a whole new experience now. Okay, sure, I’ve fallen off the running wagon (again) because well, stress. BUT today I decided I really want going to get back into running and I’m going to start documenting my actual thoughts and feelings during this mini goal/journey.

This month I also had a follow up psych appointment for med management and my doctor and I decided it would be beneficial to add an anti-anxiety medication to help my antidepressant up that steep hill. Well I’m happy to report that it’s positively affecting me and I wish I could’ve had access to mental health care when I was a teen.

Oof!! Now that’s tough pill to swallow, lol.

Today I plan and tomorrow I run. I’M SO EXCITED!!

Here’s what I’m thinking as for my plan to get back into running:

I plan on waking up at least an hour before my girls wake up. I want to have a little quiet time for myself to drink my coffee, stretch, and get my day going.

This is also when I plan on writing. I forgot just how much I love AND missed writing. Although my girls are older now and spend a lot of time running around and playing, I’m also able to write here and there throughout the day but I want to have dedicated writing time. Of course I’ll also try to take this time to get ready for the day, start breakfast, and give myself a little pep talk to get myself going.

:)

So welcome to my day one. I'm so happy you've joined me and I'm so excited to finally getting back into my one true favorite hobby.

TRACKING PROGRESS - USE WHAT YOU'VE GOT!

I currently own an apple watch (used to be a Fitbit girlie but they started sucking) and that's what I'll be using to track my progress. I'll start with one minute on and one minute off (week 1, maybe also week 2) and once I'm feeling stronger I'll add time on and reduce time off. It's the easiest way to get yourself into running. Once you can run a mile without stopping (no time goal, just run), you can change your running goals. From there I'll typically start setting new distance and time goals but always trying to keep it realistic.

Before you had to have a subscription for every single app, we used to be able to use apps with amazing features all for free! My favorite was Runkeeper! They had the best running plans, the app layout was clean and easy to use, and it showed your progress without payment. I loved it! Now I have a smartwatch and refuse to subscribe to anything anymore.

My diet has been TRASH!

Yeah, I must admit I've been doing a lot of snacking and eating at night and I freaking know better! I used to want to be a registered dietitian. I don't know why I never went through with it but I shouldve. Anyway, I took a lot of nutrition classes and actually enjoyed eating "well". I followed a vegan diet for 6 years and still enjoy eating tofu.

I vow to stop eating fatty, high calorie snacks TODAY!! I PROMISE!! Because diet makes a huge different when it comes to your training and recovery. Idk. Just saying...

First run back - 2026 :)

WOW. I really underestimated just how good it was going to feel to run again. I stuck to my running plan of 1min on and 1min off. It went really well, I felt much stronger than I expected, but I still have to be extra careful not to overdo it or neglect my mobility.

I followed it with up with another yoga class and I plan on doing one more stretch tonight before bed. My right hip/back are extremely tight and when I start to neglect my body, my hip will definitely let me know.

I’m happy with how my first run went today and I plan on writing a weekly “run with me” so we’ll see how that goes. Hope you join me on my running adventures!

:)

love,

Dany
